Who we are.
We’re Matthew Spence and William Lamerton. For the last four years we’ve built products for founders in exchange for equity. Mote is how we do that now, on clearer terms that are fairer to founders.
Why we started Mote
Swapping work for equity rarely works.
We’ve seen it from both sides. A stake agreed at the start overpays the builder if the work is quick and underpays them if it runs long. Either way, the founder gives away shares before anyone knows what the work is worth.
A deferred fee prices the work once it's done. We're paid for what we built, you keep your equity, and our arrangement ends when you buy us out.
It also keeps us the right size for an early company: two people working on your product, who step back once your own team is ready.
